1. Why do soccer players get hurt so much?
Soccer is a contact sport and, by its very nature, leads to traumatic injuries (sprains and strains, bruises). In many cases, these are an unavoidable element of the game. However, it is the overuse injuries that require more analysis, as these are often caused by movement faults or muscle imbalance issues.

2. What is an overuse injury?
We often say overuse injuries are a series of "missed clues". There is generally some underlying fault in the players, strength, flexibility, muscle balance that leads to overload of tissues. Pain is often the result.

3. Should my players wear a brace to play?
Generally, the answer is NO. If the brace has been prescribed as part of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation program it may serve a purpose. However, bracing should never be used as a substitute for adequate rehabilitation from injury.

4. Do you see more female or more male soccer players?
We have noticed a major increase in female soccer injuries. In our clinic they outnumber males 5:1.

5. Is my coaching a factor in these injuries?
Sadly, this is often the case.

6. As a coach, I have a limited fitness background, can you help?
It was in response to this question that many of our programs were developed. Our unique blend of coaching and physiotherapy skills will help you design programs for individual players and teams.

7. What sort of clues should I be looking for to help my players?
Often overlooked areas like balance, coordination, posture, usually need to be addressed. Programs to improve these areas are relatively simple to fit into your weekly practices.

8. Do you treat any elite soccer players?
We have been known for the last 15 years as a soccer destination and have attracted many of Canada's top overseas players to our programs and clinics. You may just see them if you are at the clinic.

9. We perform basic speed work at the Academy - why does it not seem to work?
There is more to program design than hurdles and speed ladders. Maximizing potential requires an understanding or each athlete and their requirements. Generic programs will always work for some people, but it takes a specialized physiotherapy training in movement analysis and restorative program design to help players achieve their full potential.
